About the Role
Rural Carrier Associates serve rural communities by delivering and collecting mail and packages along established rural routes. Unlike city carriers who walk routes, RCAs typically drive — either a USPS vehicle or their own personal vehicle (mileage is reimbursed when a personal vehicle is used). Routes vary in length but often cover 50–100+ miles per day through countryside, small towns, and suburban fringe areas.
RCAs are called in to cover routes when the regular career carrier is off. This means your schedule varies week to week. Many RCAs eventually bid into their own permanent route as positions become available, transitioning to a career appointment with full federal benefits.
