About the Role

As a DEA Special Agent, your mission is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States — bringing to justice those who grow, manufacture, or distribute controlled substances in or destined for the US. You will conduct complex, long-term investigations of major drug trafficking organizations using wiretaps, confidential sources, undercover operations, surveillance, and coordination with foreign law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

DEA Special Agents work across all 50 states and in over 80 countries through a network of 92 domestic offices and international country offices. The rise of fentanyl trafficking, cartel operations, and narco-terrorism has made DEA one of the most urgently funded agencies in the federal government — with significant hiring momentum expected through 2026 and 2027.

“DEA Special Agents are on the frontlines of America’s fight against fentanyl and drug cartels. Our agents work alongside partners around the world to dismantle the organizations poisoning our communities.” — DEA Administrator
